A sad time for the local kayaking community. Last Wednesday, a 16 year-old boy pushed his recently purchased kayak into the waters off Sandpiper Beach on Hornby Island in the early afternoon. He has not been seen since. He was reported missing in the evening, and a couple of hours later his flooded kayak was found.
His paddle, shoes and hoodie were found in the kayak; he was wearing a PFD and was considered to be an experienced paddler.
A vigil was held last night.
